NASA says astronomers are using Hubble Space Telescope images to develop computer models that analyse how gravity distorts light.
Its October 22 report describes work intended to support analysis of observations from the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope.
Gravitational lensing occurs when a foreground galaxy's gravity bends and magnifies light from a more distant galaxy. Researchers study these distortions to learn about galaxy mass and dark matter.
